What’s Gratitude Got To Do With It?

The two people I’m most grateful for, Brigg and JJ.

This is the month to give thanks. I see it all over Facebook, all my friends have jumped on the “I’m Thankful For” bandwagon.  I have a confession to make, I’m not feeling very grateful. I’m in a season of discouragement and frustration. The truth is I have absolutely everything to be grateful for and I just don’t feel like going there.

Gratitude is an interesting. People like to express it when they feel it and don’t express it when they are having a bad day. I believe that’s backwards. Gratitude is like a flu shot for a bad attitude.   With several reminders of the blessings in my life, I’m suddenly a new woman! So with antidote in hand, an antic dote I will provide!

God Has Richly Blessed With a Community and Family

My Sons – Brigg and JJ. I am awestruck at the incredible gift God has blessed me with in these two boys. Never have I been more in love with two people. Being a mom has grown me more than any other experience. My boys fill me with joy and trepidation at the same time. The overwhelming responsibility to raise them well brings to me to my knees in prayer most days, but God has abundantly blessed me with wisdom. Thank you Brigg and JJ, I love you more than you could possibly imagine!

My Christian sisters – Brenda Dewalt, Blanca Ordaz, Keely Thompson, Maria Borrego, Delaney Lawless, Mary Viglione, Cassie Adamson, Kristen West, Melissa Rivera-Rollins, Janelle Delesinskis.  I could list pages of women who’ve spoken into my life, guided my relationship with Christ, led me through extremely difficult times. These are a few who’ve demonstrated mercy, unconditional love and sisterhood. Thank you ladies, I am deeply grateful for your friendships. Without each of you I would not be the Christian woman I am today.

My street sisters – Emily Alford, Anissa Long, Gretchen Lapham, Kayla Cook, Jessie Campagna, Ursula and Kathi. I adore these women who keep me grounded, laughing and dancing. I love walking down the street and knowing one of these beautiful ladies will probably be hanging outside and will offer me a glass of wine and a chat. We’ve been together for pregnancies, births, adoptions, heartbreaks, milestones, karaoke, tears, truths, moves, loss, sweat and life. You women inspire me and I’m honored to call each of you a friend. I love doing life with you!

My SOUL sister – Paige New! There is a friend for every season and Paige you are my friend for life. We were both starting our lives at the same time, newly married, no children, exploring careers when we met. We have seen it ALL, done it ALL, known it ALL, and lived through it ALL. A day never passes that I don’t think about you, pray for you, or smile at a memory of you. I love growing old with you and can’t wait to retire on a vineyard in Tuscany together.

My MOPS family – Gayle Wright, Diana Goldy, Karen Svatos, Jacy Bowers.  Two years ago, I applied for a job at MOPS, not surewhy I’d applied and scared of how I was going to make a living as a divorced mom of two. The ladies in my department became my family and I’m incredibly grateful for every tear we’ve shed together and every celebration we’ve shared together. Thank you ladies for seeing me through and believing in me!

My Family – Mom, Dad and Sister. Thank you for teaching me about all things family in the outdoors. I always knew I’d live in the city one day, but I never knew the mountains would stay in my blood forever. You are an amazing family and I love you forever!

“You Were Made For Such A Day As This”

I have been beyond blessed with a new spirit of adventure and trying new things.

Triathlons, half marathons, climbing Long’s Peak, mission trip to Honduras, travel to Mexico, girls trip to Seacost Church, women’s refresh weekends, hiking far and wide, swimming in lakes, body boarding, motorcycle riding, running in the mountains, writing a blog, zip lining, rock climbing, scary rides at Elitche’s, sideline passes at the Bronco’s game, bow hunting, gun shooting, skipping rocks and river hopping.

God Is In the Majestic And In The Details

Music, singing, dancing, headphones. Mountains, lakes, rivers, trees. Sunrises and sunsets.  Pools, summer, fresh air, warm breezes. Laughing, jumping, playing, running. Tickling, giggling, teasing, Eskimo kisses. Warm house, warm bed, warm blankets. Happy smiles, bright eyes, cheery greetings. Prayers, praises, worship.

What are you grateful for? Let it out, you’ll feel much better!!

  1. Another great one, Lori! You are doing such a great job writing these! I love reading them, keep it up! Yes, you have a ton of great things in your life to be grateful for, but most importantly you have the power and love from the creator of the universe with the hope of an eternity with him forever! I’ll be there with you and am so grateful to have that to look forward to. Love you friend!
