A nasty little rumor was being circulated that the American Civil Liberties Union was filing a lawsuit against the Marine Corps for praying. At the height of this rumor, a stir in my family was created, a turning point if you will.
I LOVE God, you all probably know that about me. I just read Jeremiah today whereby the nations who didn’t love God get creamed. I believe that a nation that isn’t backed by God is in a bit of trouble. Being a child of a Vietnam Veteren, a WWII navy vet and a Pearl Harbor survivor I also have a very special place in my heart for the people to fight to protect the freedoms in my country. Even the freedom of the ACLU to file lawsuits. File away ACLU, let’s see what you’ve got against our mighty Marine Corp and our mighty God.
Whatever your thoughts about the military or whatever your thoughts about God, I say if there’s ever a time to pray it’s before you are about to go into battle. My dad, a Vietnam veteran in the Marine Corps and not at all a man of faith even agrees. I was actually taken aback that he stood in support of the Marine Corps’ right to pray. But he’s a man the Marine Corp made and he fought for God, Country and Corps. So thank you ACLU that my dad and I have found some common ground in the otherwise shaky terrain of religion.
My boys, 9 and 6 had the great fortune of hearing this conversation between my dad and I. My oldest son has questioned God in the

past and it’s always been my prayer that he would know God and love him. He pretty much feels the same I do about the ACLU taking on God in this fight and well “they’re pretty much gonna lose.” What I saw today was a new level of conviction I haven’t yet seen. I saw in him intelligent conversation using what he’s learned in the bible. I saw him get fired up for God! ACLU, I’d like to thank you for bringing out the mighty warrior for God in my sons.
I know, dearest ACLU, that you are trying to take prayer out of the government. I know you believe you are protecting some rights of the people who don’t believe in God. However, what you’ve done is brought a non-believer and believer together and strengthened the faith of our youngest believers. You may just single-handedly turn our country toward God in the most might of ways. Thank you ACLU for shining a light where you didn’t intend and putting God in the center of our fight for our country. May God bless you!
